CrossWise Drama Honors Former Local Teacher Annette Elliott

An upcoming CrossWise Players production titled Stained: A Drama of Life in Stained Glass on October 5 and 6 will be presented in memory of local teacher Annette Elliott. Annette was a graduate of Sunset High School and Dallas Baptist University and taught in the Dallas, Red Oak, and Cedar Hill school districts. She was a member of the CrossWise Players troupe and appeared in several productions. A lifelong member of the Tyler Street United Methodist Church in Dallas, she was active in children, youth and young adult ministries as well as in various choirs. She was named “Mother of the Year” at Tyler Street in May, 2000.

Annette was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1998 but continued to teach at Highlands Elementary School in Cedar Hill until the illness forced her to retire in April, 2000. Highlands dedicated their yearbook for 2001-2002 to Annette with the following inscription: “Annette loved children…we will miss her smile, her laugh, her singing, her warm hugs, her friendship, her unselfish care and the love she showed to all of God’s creatures.”

The drama dedicated to Annette’s memory is a part of the 90th Anniversary celebration of the Tyler Street United Methodist Church in Dallas. It will be presented at 7:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday, October 5th and 6th in the church sanctuary located at 927 West Tenth Street, in the Winnetka Heights Historic District. Admission is free.

Former Channel 8 news reporter Sonya Van Sickle will host the production. About the drama, Van Sickle says, “The story follows three generations of a Dallas family from 1900 to the present with each episode in their lives related to one of the eight historic stained glass windows at the church.”

In addition to the play, an historical exhibit about Oak Cliff and Southwest Dallas will open at 6:30 pm each night before the performance. Rev. Chris Allen, pastor of the Tyler Street Church and Jimmy Emery, director of Fine Arts, welcomes the community to participate in this extraordinary event. For more information about directions or dates, call the church at 214-946-8106 or CrossWise Productions at 972-467-6897. A map and additional information about the play is available at the www.crosswiseplayers.com web site.
